In Loving Memory: Bonnie Lou
I’m writing with a heavy heart to share some news about Bonnie, my beloved dog, who many of you came to know and love during our time working together. After 10 wonderful years by my side, Bonnie passed away peacefully on November 12th, 2024 with her head resting gently in my hands. Her sudden decline left few options, and after careful thought about her quality of life and to minimize suffering, I made the decision to say goodbye with dignity, gratitude, and love.
Bonnie brought so much joy, comfort, and companionship to our sessions, and I know her absence will be felt. Given how much she meant to many of you, I wanted to let you know ahead of time so you have space to process this loss in your own way.
If you feel moved to honor Bonnie’s memory, in lieu of flowers or other gestures, I invite you to rather consider a donation to One Tail at a Time. This Chicago-based organization is dedicated to rescuing animals and supporting pet owners in need, including offering assistance with veterinary care to prevent pet surrenders.

I've been taking the last few days to sit with her passing, to feel what I feel. Even with her death, she continues to teach me about love, trust, and life. I’ll spend these days grieving, walking, journaling, talking with loved ones, pouring over photos, and mostly reflecting on our journey together and all the beautiful memories and lessons we created. I share this with you as a reminder of the importance of truly feeling and integrating life’s hardest moments, to give oneself the space to feel the full weight and not to shrink from it. The antidote to trauma is to properly grieve, and grieving is unique for all of us.
As always, please feel free to reach out if you have any questions or if there’s anything I can do to support you during this time. Bonnie loved spending time with each of you--she was an unwavering rock of support for so many and I’m beyond grateful she was able to share her spirit and endless compassion unconditionally. Her impact is etched into my very being, and I will forever cherish the joy of being the dog dad to the greatest puppy I've ever known.
